Chopra's winning throw came in the third round, following a foul and an 83.45m attempt. While the distance secured him the top spot, the athlete conveyed his ambition for better results.
"I am not that happy with my performance today, but I am very happy with the trophy I won," Chopra stated. He also shared his long-held admiration for the Golden Spike meet, saying, "I used to watch this meeting a lot as a kid... Now the dream has come true."
His subsequent throws were 82.17m and 81.01m, before a final-round foul. Chopra acknowledged the enthusiastic support from the Czech crowd, wishing he could have delivered a better performance for them. He previously achieved over 90m at the Doha Diamond League in May.
The 27-year-old is coming off a Diamond League victory in Paris. His next competition is the NC Classic in Bengaluru on July 5, where he will compete against Anderson Peters and Thomas Rohler.
Despite not meeting his personal expectations, Chopra's effort was enough to win the Golden Spike title.
