The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is the latest to join the growing trend among state cricket bodies, announcing the launch of its own T20 league slated for the 2025-26 season.
Anil Patel, Secretary of the GCA, confirmed the development to Cricbuzz. While the decision has been made, the association is still working to identify a suitable window in the cricketing calendar for the tournament. The number of participating teams and other crucial details are yet to be finalized.
These domestic T20 leagues have become vital platforms for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises to scout emerging talent. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra have successfully provided opportunities for local players to showcase their skills and potentially earn a spot in the lucrative IPL. Many of these leagues are typically held in June and July, after the IPL season concludes in May. The new T20 league is expected to unearth fresh talent from the state of Gujarat.
