Shimron Hetmyer's explosive batting प्रदर्शन propelled the Seattle Orcas to a thrilling victory in the 2025 Major League Cricket (MLC) season. He secured a dramatic three-wicket win against MI New York with a last-ball six, achieving the highest successful run chase in MLC history.
Chasing a formidable target of 238, Hetmyer's composure under pressure allowed him to smash Kieron Pollard for a six, snatching victory from what seemed like certain defeat.
Earlier, MI New York set a high bar with a score of 237/4. Captain Nicholas Pooran led the charge with an unbeaten 108 runs off 60 balls, decorated with 7 fours and 8 sixes. He was well-supported by Tajinder Dhillon, who contributed a rapid 95 runs from 35 deliveries.
Despite the onslaught, the Orcas bowlers, Gerald Coetzee and Kyle Mayers, each claimed two wickets, managing to slightly restrict the scoring.
Seattle's response began shakily, with Josh Brown and Shayan Jahangir falling early in the powerplay.
However, Kyle Mayers (37 off 20) and captain Sikandar Raza (30 off 9) launched a swift counter-attack to revive the chase. Heinrich Klaasen added a quickfire 26 off 13 balls before being dismissed by Rushil Ugarkar.
This set the stage for Hetmyer's game-winning performance.
As the required run rate increased and wickets fell, Hetmyer shifted gears. He remained unbeaten with 97 runs off just 40 balls, hitting 5 fours and 9 sixes, achieving a remarkable strike rate of 242.50.
In the final over, with five runs needed for victory, Hetmyer faced Kieron Pollard. He executed a brilliant flick over fine leg for a six, potentially the most significant of his T20 career, leading to jubilant celebrations among the Seattle team.
"This is definitely one of the best, especially considering the pressure we were under, and I'm still thinking about the previous game where we couldn't quite get over the line," said Hetmyer, who was named Player of the Match.
"Today, I approached the game with a clear mindset, aiming to take it as deep as possible. The injury I had actually helped a bit, as it made me want to avoid running too much," he added.
